How historical societies faced vulnerability.
Past societies were often able to care for and support individuals in need. The study of skeletons reveals people with severe illnesses, trauma, or disabilities who survived for long periods thanks to community assistance. Healed fractures, chronic conditions, and physical deformities become tangible evidence of care and support.
From prehistory to the Middle Ages, numerous examples emerge of vulnerable individuals who were nonetheless integrated into social life. Even ancient populations such as Neanderthals show signs of caregiving behavior.
Solidarity thus appears as a deep and ancient trait of humanity, essential for collective survival.
