On Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., the Sala San Giovanni Paolo II at the MUDIS – Diocesan Museum of Ischia will host the award ceremony for the second edition of the Scholarship Competition promoted by the Centro Studi Isola d'Ischia APS, aimed at high school students on the island.
Ten students from the “Giorgio Buchner” State High School will be the protagonists of the morning, receiving scholarships for the best essays dedicated to Giorgio Buchner, the German archaeologist who profoundly shaped the cultural and scientific history of the island of Ischia.
“The Centro Studi Isola d’Ischia is increasingly moving along a path of renewal, with a concrete commitment to engaging young people and, in particular, the school world,” said the association’s president, Dr. Francesco Mattera. “An institution so dear to our founding father, Canon Don Onofrio Buonocore, whose example we feel the need to follow in order to make our association ever closer to the real needs of society.”
Among the speakers at the ceremony will be Prof. Assunta Barbieri, Principal of the “G. Buchner” State High School; Attorney Emanuele Di Meglio, Secretary of the Rotary Club Isola d'Ischia; Dr. Vincenzo Ferrandino, Mayor of Ischia; and Giacomo Pascale, Mayor of Lacco Ameno. The guest of honor will be Prof. Matteo D’Acunto, archaeologist at the Università Suor Orsola Benincasa.
The initiative has been made possible thanks to the contribution of the Rotary Club Isola d’Ischia and the support of several local businesses: the wineries C’est la Vie by Lucia Moraschi (Forio) and Feudi di San Gregorio (Benevento), Vivai Cosentino (Casamicciola Terme), GESFOR Srl (Pozzuoli), Torre San Montano Srl (Forio), as well as the voluntary donations of many members.
The event is open to the public.
