On Saturday, June 6, a guided tour of the itinerary “The Intuition of Love” will be offered in tribute to Lady Walton.
Once again this year, the Giardini La Mortella on the island of Ischia will take part in the national initiative “Appuntamento in Giardino”, dedicated to Italy’s parks and gardens, with the aim of helping visitors discover and experience our botanical heritage through a variety of events.
Designed as a true “garden festival,” the initiative, scheduled for Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June, is inspired by the international event “Rendez-vous aux jardins”, held simultaneously in over 20 European countries. The project is promoted by APGI – Association of Parks and Gardens of Italy, in collaboration with Ales Spa, under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Culture and ANCI – National Association of Italian Municipalities. In 2026, it also benefits from the patronage of the European Commission and the National Committee for the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Theme of the 2026 edition: “Sight”
A renewed way of looking at the garden, to understand its values, read the traces of history, and be surprised by its beauty.
On this occasion, in the year marking the centenary of the birth of Lady Susana Walton, the genius loci of the garden, the Giardini La Mortella will offer visitors, on Saturday June 6, a guided tour of the exhibition path “The Intuition of Love”, created by the Walton Foundation in tribute to Lady Susana.
“The Intuition of Love” is an evocative visitor itinerary, conceived by archaeologist Mariangela Catuogno from Ischia, who also signed the highly appreciated “Kepos project” for the Walton Foundation. The route is marked by a series of inscriptions featuring quotes by Lady Walton and by authors who inspired her, selected to narrate the creative drive that gave life to this extraordinary botanical sanctuary overlooking the bay of Forio.
An artistic intuition capable of transforming a harsh landscape into a place of beauty and love. The inscriptions, placed at strategic points throughout the garden among lava rocks and vegetation, recount the birth of this creative vision and allow visitors to come closer to Susana’s personality and her profound love for nature.
Guided tours will be led by Mariangela Catuogno and will take place at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Booking is required at +39 081 986220, followed by purchase of the entrance ticket at the garden ticket office.
