DESCRIPTION:At 11:00 AM\, a special guided tour with archaeologist Mariange
la Catuogno exploring the female role in the ancient world—through myth\,
daily life\, and power.\n\nOn the occasion of International Women’s Day\,
the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum in Lacco Ameno joins the initiative p
romoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture\, opening its doors for free to
all women on Sunday\, March 8\, 2026.\nThis initiative is not only a symb
olic tribute but a celebration of the female universe with a special guide
d tour led by archaeologist Mariangela Catuogno\, starting at 11:00 AM. Pa
rticipants will follow a path that tells the story of women’s private and
public lives in antiquity\, through the extraordinary collections preserve
d at the museum on Ischia.\nJewelry\, mirrors\, amulets\, domestic utensil
s\, and decorated kraters with figurative and iconic motifs will help visi
tors understand the evolution of women’s social roles\, the freedoms they
were granted\, and the differences among local\, Greek\, and Roman women.
\nThe halls of the Pithecusae Museum thus become pivotal points in a narra
tive journey dedicated to the historical and cultural roots of women in pa
st civilizations.\n\n“Celebrating March 8 at the Museum means turning a ho
liday into an experience of cultural enrichment\,” says archaeologist Mari
angela Catuogno.“The goal of this special visit\, as with others held over
the years\, is to bring the local community—not just tourists—closer to t
he Museum’s heritage. This heritage is not only connected to its most famo
us artifacts\, such as the Cup of Nestor or the Shipwreck Krater\, but als
o includes a wider range of objects\, each with its own story\, simple or
complex\, waiting to be told. Often\, these are everyday items primarily u
sed by women.”\n\n\n“Art and archaeology teach us that history was also wr
itten by women\, often behind the scenes\, through powerful symbols passed
down over time\,” states Deputy Mayor and Culture Councillor Carla Tufano
.“I hope this day and our initiative invite all women to reclaim the beaut
y and historical memory preserved in our Museum.”\n\n\nInfo &amp\; Opening
