Sunday morning, August 23: open-water swimming returns to the island of Ischia

On Sunday morning, August 23, with the patronage of the Municipality of Forio, open-water swimming returns to the island of Ischia. This long-standing sporting event, which has been a highlight of the island’s summer for more than a decade, reaches its 15th edition, thanks to the commitment of the historic Yacht Club Vela.it, in collaboration with Forti e Veloci Isola d’Ischia, which, as every year, are working to ensure the successful organization of the Punta Caruso Trophy.

The sporting event is open to anyone who practices swimming, both adults and children. The course is simple and not too long. The start will take place in the stretch of water in front of the cave at San Francesco beach, while the finish will be located shortly before the Scoglio dell’Impiccato, near the small “Tirrenia” beach, adjacent to the outer breakwater of the port of Forio.

The awards ceremony will take place on the platform at Terrazza di Venere as soon as the last participant has crossed the finish line. The meeting point is scheduled for 10:00 AM in the parking area of the “Da Nicola” beach establishment, where registration will take place.

The course record is held by Samuele De Rinaldi, who in 2021 stopped the clock at 16 minutes and 31 seconds.

This year, no professional competitive swimmers will take part in the race; participants will instead include tourists as well as local master and amateur swimmers.

As every year, the trophy for the winners and the special prizes have been created by Keramos Ceramics. The most deserving participants who do not finish as overall winners will receive a bottle of wine from Pietratorcia wineries, as well as a participation medal provided by the Naples section of the CSI (Italian Sports Center), to which the Yacht Club is affiliated.
