SYNOPSIS
Amarga Navidad, directed by Pedro Almodóvar, tells two interwoven stories set in different periods of time.
The first follows Elsa, a commercial director, in 2004, during the long holiday break in December. The second takes place in 2026 and centers on Raúl, a screenwriter and director working on a screenplay that we gradually discover is the story of Elsa, her partner Bonifacio, and her friends Patricia and Natalia.
Blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality, Elsa becomes a kind of alter ego for Raúl, who turns to autofiction as a way to overcome a long period of creative emptiness. By looking inward, Raúl inevitably turns his gaze toward the people who make up his most intimate world: his partner and his assistant.
The film explores the deep connection between reality and fiction, between inspiration and life itself, while reflecting on the boundaries and possibilities of autofiction.
