La grazia, the film directed by Paolo Sorrentino, stars President of the Republic Mariano De Santis (no reference to any real presidents; the character is entirely the product of the author’s imagination).
A widower and a Catholic, he has a daughter, Dorotea, a jurist like himself.
At the end of his term, amid dull, uneventful days, his final duties emerge: deciding on two delicate requests for presidential pardons—true moral dilemmas. These become intertwined, in an apparently inextricable way, with his private life. Driven by doubt, he must make a decision. And with a great sense of responsibility, that is exactly what this great President of the Italian Republic will do.
Alongside the two main protagonists, Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti as the President of the Republic and his daughter, the film’s cast also includes Orlando Cinque, Massimo Venturiello, Milvia Marigliano, Giuseppe Gaiani, Giovanna Guida, Alessia Giuliani, Roberto Zibetti, Vasco Mirandola, Linda Messerklinger, and Rufin Doh Zeyenouin.
